Growing up as an African-American man, I was taught that being a black male is

the most difficult job to have in society. I was raised to believe that the odds are against

you if you are anything other than white. I did not think that being any other gender or

race could be any more difficult. I never stopped to think about the way colored women

Custom writing service can write essays on colored women

were treated until I read An Alarming Report on the State of New Yorks Women of

color NYCs Forsaken Future by Thulani Davis. This article brings forth many issues

that women of color face. Many women of color are now faced with issues such as

unemployment, unaffordable housing, lack of education, and HIV. In response to this article,

my concept is solely based on how these women are so very lowly categorized and

treated. I do not agree with it at all and something has to be done to resolve this conflict.

Being a colored woman in New York can be very sabotaging. I live in Sunset Park, Brooklyn,

in a dominated Latino Community. I have lived on the same street and in the same apartment for

twenty-one years. Growing up in this community, I have learned many disturbing facts. Many

women in my community have dropped out of school because of pregnancy. These young

women think that getting their GED is acceptable in our society. Furthering their education by

going to college is not a priority to them. What these young latina women fail to realize is that with

a lack of education, it is extremely difficult to get a good job. This is why women of color are

labeled invisible visible women of color.

My definition of invisible visible women of color is a woman who does not try in

life. It seems that when life gets too hard, some colored women take the easy way out. All women

are very much visible despite what your race is. But when the ruling class obtains employment in

a diverse range ofjobs and colored women do not, colored women are quick to say that the

reason for this is because they are not white. Yes, the odds are against colored women but they

can change that. Colored women must try harder in becoming successful. They have to get their

High School diploma instead of settling for their GED. Also, they must further their education by

going to college. When saying college, I do not mean settling for just your Associates or

Bachelors degrees. Colored women should try to obtain the highest degree possible. It is a fact

that some institutions and universities have these high priced tuition costs, but there are financial

aid programs and loan programs they can look into. In the job market today, many

companies are looking for those who have a wide range of education. Without education

colored women have difficulty rising to top administrative and management positions in

the public private sector.

Based on my own experiences, I have witnessed how colored women usually hold

very low income jobs or jobs where there really are no chances for advancement.

Most fast food restaurants such as McDonalds and Burger King employ a large number

of Black and Hispanic women. My mother, a black woman, works in a department

store in the city. She has been working there for many years and she has not been

advanced nearly as much as some of the white women who have worked there for not

even half the time she has. Managers often tend to promote individuals who fit their own

image. As a result, less and less minorities are promoted. A lot of the time, if a woman of

color makes a mistake on the job it is often blamed on her gender or race. This is all

clearly absurd and our city has to make many changes to the way these women are

treated.

I do believe that we can greatly reduce the amount of animosity there is towards

these women. People have to learn how to stop being so selfish and learn to do for

others in need for a change. Our city has to learn to give every one an equal opportunity.

Humans, no matter what your sex or race, need somewhere to live, food to eat, and

Health insurance. No one should ever be denied this. It is sad to see that in this day in

age, in this civilized society, our own women are being ignored.

Society has seemingly come to accept all races, religions, and genders, and

supposedly has achieved political correctness, yet there are these unfortunate women

who no one has bothered to help with. No matter how you look at it, women are women

and color will not change that. There should not have to be a ruling class. If people would just

give help when needed, we as a human race, would live so much happier, simpler lives.
