The significance of learners Errors

by S.P.Corder

According to the essay, there are too schools or two attitudes towards errors made during the learning process of a language . The first school sees that errors are a strong evidence that shows the teachersfailure in teaching a language, these errors are committed by learners because they were not taught the right way . Contrary to first school point of view, the second one finds that errors are expected and are an important part of the learning process , means that you wont know the right if you didnt know the wrong . talking about the learning process itself of a language depends on the case of this language whether it is the mother languageor a foreignone . The mother language acquisition differs from learning the foreign language in three ways. Firstly it differs in the motivation, to learn ones mother language the motivation is internal and strong, while it is external and weak in learning the foreign one . Data during the process of acquiring mother language is unlimited, the child can learn through the whole environment around him, while data in learning a foreign language is limited, it may come only from the teacher and the text book ( mostly both arecompletely typical ).Not as learning a foreign language l earning mother language is part of the ones maturation and growing up process, just as Chomsky described it, it is innate a human nature that is created in each child before his/her birth. In addition, when we learn our first language we start from zero, the mother language is the base that learners stand on in order to learn language two. Lastly, during acquiring the mother language children make mistakes which are random and self corrected, while during learning the foreign language errors are systematic and corrected by others, usually by teachers .

I found the article suitable and understandable by any reader, it clarifies the issue of error analysis, giving obvious examples that lead the reader to the state of convention. Still I believe that consciously and unconsciously we have errors during learning a foreign language, sometimes because we dont know if it is wrong or right, sometimes we may be sure it is right though it is wrong, sometimes we know it is wrong the way we write it or say it but we simply dont know how it should be . If their should be a source of errors, it wont be one, each person makes errors reasoned by his/her learning condition .
